DJ Friendgineer

ON THE WEDDING PARTY, THROWING A HOUSE PARTY, OR JUST HOSTING A LAN PARTY?

De-Stressify it.

A few mashups and originals:

The only thing you should be worried about is where you left your shoes

  1. I’m an enthusiastic, creative DJ that focuses on providing entertainment, not just “pressing play.” I love incorporating cool sound effects, smooth fades and I’m incredibly interactive: I spend as much time playing tunes as I do ripping up the dance floor!
  2. I deliver mashups* to the happy couple that they can keep listening to, long after the party’s over. This is a unique service you won’t find anywhere else, and they’re a huge hit every time!
  3. I only play clean** music, so there aren’t any awkward moments or offended guests.
  4. I communicate ahead of time to collect a list* of songs including Father Daughter dances, First Dances, Bouquet Toss (it doesn’t have to be Beyonce!) and Wedding Party Introducers, as well as 50 to 60 minutes of their favourite dance tracks from which I can build off off, curating an awesome DJ set that will have people dancing ’till Catering kicks us out.

*Mashups are a mix of songs (hand-picked by the couple) that I blend together to make into a custom “mashed up” creation.

**I do many religious weddings and so my music catalogue only includes clean songs, or clean edits of songs. For this reason, I don’t normally take requests unless I have explicit approval from the wedding party.

I put the “Party” in Party

  1. I’m an energetic dance-machine. I feed off the crowd; feeling out the mood and blending tracks together as the night evolves!
  2. I love using creative sound effects and focusing on catchy hooks, and infectious beats. My genre ranges from catchy EDM, popular dance tracks, and retro/funk tunes peppered with tasteful drops, the occasional trap / dubstep, and a lot of floor shaking bass.
  3. I deliver mashups* that you can keep listening to, long after the party’s over. This is a unique service you won’t find anywhere else, and it’s a huge hit every time.
  4. I communicate ahead of time to collect a list* of songs including 50 to 60 minutes of your favourite tracks, so everybody can have a “That’s my Jam!” moment.

*Mashups are a mix of songs (hand-picked by you) that I blend together to make into a custom “mashed up” creation.

The Nitty Gritty:

  • Whole-day events are 550$ or 500$ without mashups
  • Half-day events are 400$ or 350$ without mashups
  • My setup consists of a laptop, and a Traktor Kontrol S2 console. I am not responsible for the sound system, microphones, mixing console or other venue gear. However, the Whole-Day service includes helping you decrypt what gear to rent, setting it up, tearing it down, and all the nerdy stuff in between.
  • Transportation fees (above 5$) are extra*

Testimonials

What people have been testimonialing.

"No one worked harder or did more…he would rise to the challenge to do something spectacular and more than anyone would expect. This kind of fearlessness and his desire for greatness is what makes Tokyo a great producer, engineer and musician."

Moe Berg, 'The Pursuit of Happiness'

"The professionalism and his quick turnaround really kept me happy! One key point I would make is that all of Tokyo’s work stays relevant in this constantly changing industry. With fancy effects, interesting instruments… He is always coming up with unique ways to make music!"

Maverick Judson

"He is the only person that has ever been able to push me out-of-the-box completely, and brought my creativity to a whole new level. He is a lyrical wizard and musical genius who puts 110% into every project he works on."

Lauren Campbell

"I wouldn’t be reviewing someone if their work wasn’t excellent. This is a given, and Tokyo surpasses all these expectations. But Tokyo is not just a great engineer and producer, he is a truly unique one. Everything this man touches is pushed many levels up and ends up having this “wow this is different” feel to it. In a good way. Every time."

Mat Keselman

"..I have been approached by multiple publishing companies since then about their interest in the songs on that very project. I believe that the influence he had on the final product played a significant role in making my EP a radio-friendly, sync-ready piece of art that both contained my genuine intentions and served the industry demands…"

Joey Langlois

"…Tokyo was one of the most talented and hard working guys I’ve ever worked with and was always excited to learn new things and be involved in every facet of the creative process. He is fun to be around replica rolex and brought a positive and energetic attitude to the studio every day which made everyone happy to be around him…"

Roddy Colmer (Rebel Emergency, Most Non Heinous)

"Dave is nothing short of a genius. He’s learnt incredibly well over the years how to harness his creative eccentricity and pour his heart and soul into every project. Professional and inspiring."

Amy Dagenais, 'No Ladders'

I had the pleasure of working with Tokyo on my solo album and the first album from my band, Most Non Heinous. Tokyo was one of the most talented and hard working guys I’ve ever worked with and was always excited to learn new things and be involved in every facet of the creative process. He is fun to be around and brought a positive and energetic attitude to the studio every day which made everyone happy to be around him. He also has a very high level of musical aptitude and his insights were always well timed and welcome. I highly recommend having Tokyo on your team for any musical endeavour.-Roddy Colmer (Rebel Emergency, Most Non Heinous)
I don’t recall a student getting more out of his experience at Music Industry Arts, where I teach, than Tokyo. No one worked harder or did more. But what impressed me more is how he saw projects as not something that had to be completed but challenges that were in place to make him better. So he would rise to the challenge to do something spectacular and more than anyone would expect. This kind of fearlessness and his desire for greatness is what makes Tokyo a great producer, engineer and musician.-Moe Berg, ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’
Tokyo did some production work, mixing and mastering on my last EP. The professionalism and his quick turnaround really kept me happy! One key point I would make is that all of Tokyo’s work stays relevant in this constantly changing industry. With fancy effects, interesting instruments… He is always coming up with unique ways to make music!-Maverick Judson
Tokyo and I formed a duo called “Lauren & Tokyo” in 2009 and wrote many songs together for that project. He is the only person that has ever been able to push me out-of-the-box completely, and brought my creativity to a whole new level. He is a lyrical wizard and musical genius who puts 110% into every project he works on.-Lauren Campbell

From listening to [Tokyo’s] previous work I could tell that he was someone who understood what the industry demands across various genres in order for an audio production to be competitive in todays industry… I also knew he was innovative and one to do what it takes to make something sounds stellar…I couldn’t have made a better choice…I collaborated with him…to fit my dream vision. That process made me appreciate Tokyo’s patience and dedication to understanding an artists vision and to making it a reality…The influence he had on the final product played a significant role in making my EP a radio-friendly, sync-ready piece of art. I recommend any artist to collaborate with Tokyo Speirs for the creativity he brings to the table and especially his dedication to understanding a vision and turning it into a reality no short of excellent.-Joey Langlois
“Tokyo Speirs is redefining the concept of a one-man band. His use of punchy beats, catchy harmonies and eclectic instrumentation allow him to dodge any real genre categorization. From passionately sobering to irresistibly danceable, the lush and layered electro-folk tracks are bursting with life and vitality — ready to set the mood for the most energetic scenes. As Tokyo puts it, if Pop-Folktronica were an enchanted forest, he would be its resident unicorn.” – The Music Bed
“Dave is nothing short of a genius. He’s learnt incredibly well over the years how to harness his creative eccentricity and pour his heart and soul into every project. Professional and inspiring.” – Amy Dagenais

Eye Candy

It’s tough to describe music production or recording engineering, and frankly it can be quite boring. Instead, here are some album covers and ego-centric pictures.
